Studio Burns was founded by former editor Charlotte Burns in 2020 to produce investigative reporting, data-driven research, and in-depth conversations about the art world.
Research projects include The Burns Halperin Report, created in partnership with Julia Halperin in 2018, which is the largest data study of its kind tracking representation in museums and the market. The Anonymous Was A Woman Artist Survey in 2025 was a first-of-its-kind study produced in collaboration with SMU Data Arts, Halperin, and Randolph, synthesizing responses from more than 1,200 artists.
Studio Burns produces podcasts including “The Art World: What If…?!” with Schwartzman& in New York.
Burns’ writing has appeared in The New York Times, Cultured Magazine, Artnet News, The Art Newspaper, and more.
